USIFA has partnered with the Pokhrama Foundation to build and establish a Community Service and Leadership Center. The Pokhrama Foundation is a nonprofit organization working across remote villages in Bihar, India, focused on providing high-quality education and community services go children, and particularly girls, in remote and underdeveloped areas of Bihar, India.
The Community Service and Leadership Center will be situated next to the Pokhrama Foundation Academy and will provide the following four services:
The Community Pediatric Health Clinic will address the near-complete absence of health facilities in the area. In partnership with the leading health charity, Impact Guru, the clinic will support birth registration, access to immunization, access to feminine hygiene products, and regular checkups to ensure timely diagnosis of common illnesses such as iron or calcium deficiencies.
The Computer Lab will promote computer literacy among both Pokhrama Foundation Academy students and dropout high school girls in the five villages. This endeavor will create enhanced learning opportunities and broaden career options for students and youth in the area.
The Learning Center will provide educational opportunities for out-of-school children, focusing on girls and those from economically and socially challenged backgrounds, such as the Musehars. Through year-long bridge courses in numeracy and literacy, the LC will prepare children who are out-of-school to join schools like the Pokhrama Foundation Academy (PFA). The bridge program will aim to reach approximately 500 children.
The Continuing Education and Community Outreach Center will empower girls who have had to discontinue their education after high school. The Center will prepare girls to continue their learning journeys by preparing them for undergraduate entrance exams at top Indian universities, as well as exams for the army, police, and banking. The program will offer information, help with applications, tutorial support, and preparations for interviews. The goal will be to achieve success for at least 20% of the participants over the next 3 years.
