Project Description:

In November 2023, the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), accompanied by a high-powered delegation of CEOs and senior executives from 20 leading U.S. corporations, visited Kurseong and Darjeeling to explore investment opportunities and strengthen ties with the region. As part of their commitment to inclusive development, the delegation donated computer sets to under-resourced schools in the Darjeeling hills. These were later distributed by the Darjeeling Welfare Society (DWS) to eight remote schools across Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts—areas that have long struggled to provide quality education due to their geographic isolation and lack of digital infrastructure.

In February 2024, the DWS team traveled deep into these rural communities to deliver the donated computer sets. Sponsored by USISPF, the initiative provided high-end technology and IT support to schools that had previously never had access to computers. Each school also received a year of free internet connectivity, unlocking a world of digital learning opportunities for hundreds of students. This joint effort by USISPF, DWS, and its partners marks a meaningful step toward bridging the digital divide and empowering the next generation in the Himalayan foothills through access to modern education.
