Project Description:

During the deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, the U.S.–India Friendship Alliance (USIFA) raised more than $21.6 million to provide urgent medical relief across the country. The funds were utilized to procure 31,026 oxygen concentrators, 2 million Rapid Antigen Test Kits, and a wide range of other critical medical supplies.

The oxygen concentrators, sourced from Sanrai International, extract oxygen from ambient air and deliver it in a regulated manner to patients in need of urgent oxygen therapy. Each 5LPM oxygen concentrator is estimated to have saved between one and three human lives, directly impacting between 31,026 and 93,078 people. These life-saving devices were distributed across all 28 states, 8 union territories, and 4 independent and state agencies in India.

At the request of the Government of India, 2 million Rapid Antigen Test Kits were also delivered to multiple states—one million donated by Perkin Elmer and another one million purchased at cost.

In addition to oxygen concentrators and testing kits, USIFA procured and delivered a substantial quantity of essential medical equipment and supplies, including:

  • More than 700 metric tons of liquid oxygen storage
  • 500 ventilator splitters
  • Over 15,000 tons of medical supplies
  • 4.6 million Viral Transport Medium (VTM) Kits
  • 4 oxy-trucks
  • 2 Million Rapid Antigen Test (RATs) from Perkin Elmer
